2 week diet review

The diet gurus come and go. From Michel Montignac, to Robert C. Atkins to Sonja Bakker. And this year it was Dr. Frank. But he also seems to have finished ... Leontien.nl explains why many diet gurus do not have a long life.

At the beginning they seem to have found the holy grail of weight loss. Their diet books sell like hot cakes. And in every talk show they happily promote their method. They think they have the solution for overweight. We are of course talking about diet gurus here. Their success, however, is never lasting. After some time the criticism starts and it appears that their diet method is a farce.

Metabolism disrupted
Diet followers have forgotten a failed diet in no time and are willing to follow a newly resurrected diet guru. For example, the Montignac diet was followed by the diet of cardiologist Robert C. Atkins. When adverse effects on health were also discovered during the Atkins diet, people switched to Sonja Bakker. The hype around Sonja Bakker was unprecedented. From her first book alone Reach your ideal weight! more than 400,000 copies were sold. But also diet guru Sonja fell from her pedestal. A 40-week scientific study by the University of Wageningen showed that her diet did not work. By other nutritionists her diet was labeled as one of the many crash diets that would disrupt the metabolism in the long term.

Lose weight without feeling hungry
The disappointed Bakkerfans did not have to grieve long because there was internist Frank van Berkum, better known as Dr. Frank, to catch them. With his book Healthy Slim with Dr. Frank and websites Eenkiloperweek.nl and Previtas.nl had created a new hype. Thousands of people went enthusiastic with Dr. Frank started. Losing a kilo per week without feeling hungry, everyone wants that. In February of this year van Berkum explained to Leontien.nl what the secret behind his success diet was.

Just like any other diet
With the Dr. ir. Frank Diet flies off the kilograms at the beginning. That is not the point of criticism from the angle of nutritionists, dietitians and doctors. They especially approve Dr's diet method. Frank and the way he would exploit his status as an internist. Biometricist Peter Deriemaeker explains in the Radar program that Dr. Frank would be like any other diet. He emphasizes that you do not lose weight with the diet by taking more proteins and less carbohydrates, but that you simply get a lot less calories per day with his diet. That makes for slimming. Scientific research shows that the vast majority of people who lose weight with such a diet are back to the old weight within a year. Moreover, the food that you get with the Dr. Frankdieet too one-sided.

High cholesterol and bone loss
According to the Nutrition Center there is Dr. in the diet. Frank too much saturated fat. About 2.5 times more saturated fat than you might eat per day. It is long and widely known that too much saturated fat increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. According to professor of nutrition and health Jaap Seidel, it is not wise that Van Berkum allows his patients to consume so many proteins. Many diabetic patients suffer from kidney problems. And many people who are overweight are now diabetic patients. Seidel claims in Radar that it has been proven that high protein intake is harmful for people with impaired kidney functions. This is not the only adverse health effect of high protein consumption. Deriemaeker states that by ingesting too much animal protein, the body acidifies. To compensate for that acidic environment, the body uses minerals from food or from their own body, namely the bones. This therefore increases the chance of bone loss. Through all this criticism, it will be dr. Frankdieet probably also do not have a long life.

Who's next?
The question now is who will become the next diet guru and what his or her secret is to a leaner life. The successor to Dr. Frank must be creative, because you would think that all the trucks have already been removed. No bread and potatoes, no fruit, cheese diet, no carbohydrates and fats to eat together and so on. It seems that none of these diets causes a permanent reduction in weight. In fact, if you continue with lines, or if you start a crash diet again and again, you will eventually confuse your entire metabolism. Persistent diets makes fat. With overweight, do not look for the solution outside yourself by listening to a diet guru with a magical solution. If you really want help with weight loss, consult a nutritionist or dietician, for example. They provide personal advice and insight into the relationship between food and your body.
