This way fitness has a real effect

Sports: an intention that is on many lists this new year! As a real fanatic, we go again a lot in the gym to train those extra pounds off. After all, summer is coming again. But how can we best train now and is it first cardio or strength training first? Why should we also train apart from losing weight?

When it comes to good intentions, 'more sports' is prominently placed on the top of many lists. It is healthy for everyone, overweight or not, to exercise regularly. Why? I - Petra - have gathered a few good reasons for you;)

♥ Sports reduces your heart rate (so you can live longer!)
♥ Sports reduces the chance of a stroke
♥ Sports reduces the risk of colon cancer
♥ Sports ensures an easier pregnancy and birth
♥ Sports provides better blood circulation and stronger lungs
♥ Sports helps to increase your pain tolerance
♥ Sports gives a healthier skin color and helps your skin stay elastic
♥ Sports improves your ability to think
♥ Sports improves your sleep
♥ Sports strengthens the immune system in the long term, so you are less likely to get sick

Hopefully I will now convince you about how important it is to play sports. If you exercise in the gym - maybe you already do that - it is important that you do both cardio and strength training. Cardio is good for the condition and helps with weight loss because the body burns a lot of calories.

To make sure you do not lose muscle, it is important that you also do strength training. If you do a lot of cardio, you lose more muscle. Because of the loss of muscle, the body loses the capacity to burn fat, so you do not fall off.

First cardio and then strength training, or vice versa?

Now the golden tip: start with strength training and then with cardio (of course with a warm-up before that of 10-15 minutes). The reason is mainly due to the place from which the body obtains the energy for strength training and cardio. Strength training costs more energy than cardio. If you do strength training first, you will only burn fat during cardio training. That is because you mainly use carbohydrates in weight training. These are stored in the muscles and liver, in the form of glycogen. In cardio, the body will use it primarily in the beginning, if glycogen is available. After about a quarter of an hour it starts to get lost and the body switches to fat burning. So if you do strength training first and then cardio, the body will immediately switch to vertebration during cardio training.

If you do the opposite, cardio does not have that much effect, because the body does not immediately switch to fat burning. You will also have less energy left for strength training. It is important that you first warm up before you start strength training!
