Many wellness experts want us to break it off with our scales. They say that this obsession with the scale is an ineffective way to follow the progress of weight loss and is threatening to say the least. They also claim that the number of the scales does not give the full picture of your health. Now a recent study suggests that if you want to lose weight, you have to weigh yourself more than you think.
The study was conducted by the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing and the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, who found that people who weighed themselves often helped to lose weight.
The study has not yet been published and was presented during the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2018, in which 1042 adults participated. Participants were asked to weigh themselves as they would normally and the data was shared with the researchers throughout the year. They were simply asked to check their weight in the usual way.
It was later determined that those who weighed themselves only once a week or once in two or three weeks did not lose weight. And those who checked their weight six to seven times a week lost nearly 1.7 percent of body weight, which was a significant number.
So how does this really work? Well, the logic is simple. If you are not aware of your weight, you tend to lose track of your weight loss behavior over time. We all live in an environment that promotes unhealthy eating and it is not easy to resist the temptations we encounter so often. One must be constantly motivated and aware of their efforts to lose weight. Daily weighing is a way to stay in sync with your weight. But before you start and start measuring every day, remember that this may not work for everyone.
If you are someone who has problems with body images, any day weighting can actually end if you have a toxic relationship with food or suffer from anxiety. This is especially dangerous for people who have a toxic relationship with food. For such patients, experts advise every week instead of every day.
In the end, weighting is only useful if you use that information to determine your benefit - to understand your weight pattern and your body's response to certain foods.
Make sure you are sure before you step on the scale every day. We don't endorse this as the perfect way to lose weight, but it will certainly be useful as a weight loss aid.
